BERNAS slashes white rice prices to ease cost of living

In a bid to alleviate the burden of rising living costs, Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) has welcomed the government’s decision to implement adjustments to white rice prices. This move comes as part of the MADANI Government’s proactive steps in addressing the cost of living for Malaysians.

Following the announcement by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad Sabu, BERNAS has swiftly moved to implement a price adjustment for Imported White Rice at its warehouse gates in Semenanjung Malaysia. Effective immediately, the price has been reduced from RM3,200 to RM3,000 per metric ton, translating to a decrease of RM2 to RM3 per 10-kilogram bag at the retail level.

This adjustment reflects BERNAS’ commitment to ensuring the availability of essential food products despite Imported White Rice prices remaining at their highest levels in the past 15 years. The move is in line with the government’s initiative and underscores BERNAS’ dedication to guaranteeing sufficient and stable rice supply for households nationwide.

Supporting local rice distribution

In addition to supporting the government’s intervention measures, BERNAS also acknowledges the importance of enhancing the distribution of local white rice. The company reaffirms its commitment to collaborating closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) and industry partners to uphold the nation’s food security agenda.

BERNAS remains focused on its social obligations, managing the national stockpile, and acting as the final purchaser of rice from farmers.
