WVM launches ‘Right the Wrong’ campaign to combat poverty and hunger

World Vision Malaysia launches ‘Right the Wrong’ campaign urging sustainable actions to combat poverty and hunger. Join the 30-Hour Famine now

In a bid to address the multifaceted challenges of poverty and hunger, World Vision Malaysia has launched its annual fundraising and advocacy campaign, the 30-Hour Famine, under the theme “Right the Wrong.” Encouraging Malaysians to take action beyond mere physical experiences of hunger, the campaign aims to foster sustainable lifestyles and global citizenship.

Terry Leong, the Chief Executive Officer of World Vision Malaysia, emphasized the evolving nature of poverty and hunger issues. He stated, “More challenges such as climate change, conflict, the pandemic, escalating prices, and economic instabilities have arisen, compounding the poverty-hunger vicious cycle. However, we at World Vision think that change is possible.”

The campaign highlights the significance of making informed choices towards sustainable living, such as reducing food waste, making sustainable food choices, and recycling. Leong emphasized that small, consistent actions by individuals can bring about significant long-term changes.

Local artists join forces as changemakers

To amplify their message, World Vision Malaysia has enlisted the support of local artists, including Henn, JE Pong, and Joe Chang, as Changemakers. These influential figures will play a vital role in raising awareness and driving participation in the campaign.

As part of the campaign launch, a four-day Famine Mart has been set up at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, encouraging visitors to exercise their freedom of choice and support communities in need. Additionally, a two-day Famine Festival will be held on 7 and 8 September, in collaboration with Pingmin Market, providing further opportunities for engagement and support.

World Vision Malaysia aims to raise RM1.2 million and engage 10,000 participants in the campaign. The funds raised will support community development work in DR Congo, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka, as well as the United Nations World Food Programme. Locally, the funds will benefit community development projects in Sabah and One Goal Malaysia’s Eat Right to Play Right Programme, combating child malnutrition through sports.
