The much-anticipated arrival of Japan’s beloved sakura season has descended upon Kuala Lumpur as LaLaport BBCC proudly presents the inaugural “Sakura Festival Powered by NAKED, INC.” Offering an immersive experience that mirrors the charm of Japan’s springtime, this event promises to captivate Malaysians with its enchanting allure.
From the heart of Tokyo, creative production company NAKED, INC. brings its expertise to Malaysian shores, illuminating the WoW Plaza and Central Rooftop Garden of LaLaport BBCC with a symphony of pink lights and vibrant projection mapping, all inspired by the ephemeral beauty of cherry blossoms. Authentic Keio cherry blossoms from Japan’s Yamagata Prefecture will adorn a specially designated viewing zone, allowing locals to bask in the splendor of these delicate blooms.
“NAKED’s projection mapping will transport visitors to the heart of Japan’s hanami tradition, offering an unforgettable journey through the sakura season,” said LaLaport BBCC Senior Advertising & Promotions Manager, Mr. Kenro Abe. “We’re thrilled to host this unprecedented event, promising an enchanting evening for all who attend.”
This collaboration between LaLaport BBCC and NAKED marks a significant milestone, bringing Japan’s rich cultural heritage to Malaysia’s doorstep. Renowned for their innovative approach to digital art, NAKED has wowed audiences across the globe with their groundbreaking installations, from Paris to Hong Kong and beyond.
HOSHI-NO-OKA Rocks the Stage
The festival’s grand opening featured a live performance by HOSHI-NO-OKA, a Malaysian rock group whose debut single set the stage ablaze with energy and passion. Comprising Cyen, Kano, Sasha, and Angela, the quartet embodies the spirit of Japan’s vibrant music scene, under the guidance of producer Kenta Matsukuma.
Adding to the excitement, Japanese idol girl group AKB48 is slated to make a special appearance during the festival’s closing weekend. Known for their electrifying performances, AKB48 promises to dazzle audiences with their dynamic stage presence, bringing the festivities to a spectacular finale.
But the Sakura Festival is not just about entertainment—it’s a celebration of Japanese culture in all its facets. Sakanoue Café, a renowned shaved ice store from Yushima, Japan, will debut in LaLaport BBCC, offering patrons a taste of their limited-edition cherry blossom ice. Throughout the festival, F&B tenants will serve up Sakura-inspired creations, tantalizing taste buds with a fusion of Malaysian and Japanese flavors.
Interactive Workshops and Activities
In addition to the mesmerizing projection mapping, interactive activities abound at the festival. Visitors can embark on the Uchiwa Stamp Rally, exploring the mall while collecting stamps for a chance to redeem exclusive rewards. For those craving hands-on experiences, weekend workshops offer the opportunity to craft personalized souvenirs, from Japanese mask paintings to sakura origami art.
And for the ultimate weekend outing, the Central Rooftop Garden transforms into a Sakura Market, boasting 30 pink-themed bazaar booths stocked with an array of culinary delights and unique gifts.
The Sakura Festival Powered by NAKED, INC. promises to be a sensory feast, uniting Malaysians in a celebration of Japan’s most cherished season. From dazzling light displays to mouthwatering treats, this immersive experience offers a glimpse of springtime magic, right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
