MAB’s Hari Raya Open House unites blind community

Malaysian Association for the Blind hosts joyous Hari Raya Open House, fostering inclusivity with cultural celebrations and delicious delicacies.

The Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) recently hosted its highly anticipated Hari Raya Open House event, dedicated to fostering unity and inclusivity for individuals with visual impairments. Held at Kompleks MAB, Brickfields, the event brought together members of the blind community, their families, and supporters for a day filled with celebration, cultural immersion, and shared experiences.

The Hari Raya Open House event proved to be a resounding success, with attendees partaking in a variety of engaging activities, including performances encompassing singing and dancing. Guests had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Malay music, performances, and activities that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Hari Raya, all while getting to know the blind community better. Notably, eighty volunteers from Standard Chartered Bank staff lent their support, contributing to the event’s success.

“We are thrilled to see the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the blind community and our supporters at this event. It is truly heartwarming to witness individuals coming together to celebrate Hari Raya in an inclusive and welcoming environment,” remarked Dato George Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Association for the Blind.

Traditional Malay Music and Delicacies Highlighted

Throughout the day, attendees savored a delectable array of traditional Malay delicacies specially prepared to appeal to all senses. The Hari Raya Open House event exemplified MAB’s commitment to promoting awareness, understanding, and acceptance of individuals with visual impairments within society. By providing a platform for meaningful interactions and shared experiences, MAB aims to create a more inclusive and supportive community for all. Additionally, children from the blind community were treated with duit Raya.

The Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), a non-governmental charity organization with a seven-decade legacy, is dedicated to creating equal opportunities for the visually impaired (OKU) community. Through initiatives aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 10, 3, 1, 8, and 4, MAB enables the visually impaired community to enjoy the same quality of life as sighted individuals, focusing on rehabilitation, training, education, and employment. As of October 2023, 58,289 visually impaired people are registered with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Malaysia.
