The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) is gearing up to celebrate its 19th birthday in grand style, promising a day filled with music, arts, and community engagement. On May 11th, the renowned arts center will launch its innovative “klpac Connect” initiative alongside a free outdoor concert titled “Music Play Date” and the beloved “Kabut in the Park” carboot yard sale.
Music Play Date: A Musical Extravaganza for All Ages
“Music Play Date,” a perennial favorite among families and music enthusiasts, returns to klpac’s outdoor space, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in a joyous celebration of music and creativity. The event boasts a relaxed atmosphere, with attendees encouraged to bring picnic mats and camping gear, or even unleash their inner artist with live painting sessions.
Cheryl Mah, conductor of the klpac Symphonic Band, will lead the ensemble in a repertoire featuring toe-tapping melodies and beloved tunes, including selections from iconic ballets such as “The Nutcracker” and “Swan Lake.” Attendees can expect interactive elements, including opportunities for children to bring their homemade DIY instruments and join in the music-making experience. Additionally, there will be music trivia contests with exciting prizes up for grabs
“Music Play Date” serves as a cornerstone of the “klpac Connect” initiative, aimed at enhancing accessibility to the arts and fostering community engagement. Supported by Yayasan Sime Darby, this initiative underscores klpac’s commitment to reaching diverse audiences and addressing post-pandemic challenges.
Kabut in the Park: A Sustainable Shopping Experience
In addition to musical festivities, attendees can indulge in guilt-free shopping at “Kabut in the Park,” held in klpac’s car park. Unlike traditional bazaars, this carboot yard sale features over 30 vendors offering an array of pre-loved items, from household goods to vintage collectibles, all at unbeatable prices.
With its grassroots ethos and philanthropic spirit, “Kabut in the Park” has garnered a devoted following, with part of the proceeds benefiting klpac’s programs and initiatives. To promote sustainability, shoppers are encouraged to bring their own cups, cutlery, and containers, aligning with the event’s emphasis on “Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling.”
“Kabut in the Park” kicks off at 9:00 AM and runs until 2:00 PM, providing ample time for attendees to explore the myriad treasures on offer. Meanwhile, “Music Play Date” and the launch of “klpac Connect” will commence at 11:00 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM, promising a morning of musical delight for attendees of all ages.
No registration or tickets are required for these festivities, ensuring that everyone can partake in the birthday celebrations.
