An inspection led by a team of KPDN enforcement officers raised suspicions that the lorries were transferring diesel from the original tank to the IBC tank.

When asked to produce license and permit documents for storing diesel, the lorry drivers absconded.

“The value of the seized diesel is estimated at 1,400 litres, amounting to RM 3,010.00, making the total estimated value of the seized goods RM 45,610.00,” stated Jegan Subramanian, Penang director of the ministry.

The case is under investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 to identify individuals or companies involved in diesel distribution activities or chains, including the source of diesel obtained and distributed by unauthorised parties.

Jegan further explained, “Offenders, if convicted, may be fined up to RM2 million for the first offence and up to five million ringgit for the second offence for corporate bodies.

Meanwhile, individuals may be fined up to one million ringgit for the first offence or imprisonment for up to three years or both, and fined up to three million ringgit for the second offence or imprisonment for up to five years or both.”
