Infinaxis and Velo Technologies unite for Cyberjaya Data Centre Expansion

Infinaxis and Velo Technologies partner to expand Cyberjaya data centre, aiming to boost digital infrastructure with advanced AI and IT services by 2025.

In a move reflecting Malaysia’s robust technological advancement under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the nation is set to witness substantial growth in its data centre market. Bolstered by strategic initiatives in Budget 2024 aimed at fostering business digitalisation, the data centre sector is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.92% from 2023 to 2029, reaching a projected market value of US$ 3.97 billion by 2029.

A significant development in this sector is the partnership between Infinaxis, a leading provider of data centre facilities, and Velo Technologies (TelcoHubX), an established end-to-end data centre and managed service provider. This collaboration pledges an initial 2 megawatts (MW) capacity, with an overall value generation of RM100 million, aimed at expanding Velo Technologies’ data centre footprint in Cyberjaya to meet the increasing demands of its clientele.

Ben Chin, CEO & Founder of Velo Technologies, remarked on the partnership’s strategic importance: “As we continue to expand our footprint, we are committed to meeting the evolving needs of the industry, primarily considering the increasing demand for advanced AI applications and high-power density requirements. This partnership not only marks a significant milestone in our journey, but also is an important step in transforming the data centre landscape in this region.”

Facility designed to support high-power AI applications

The new data centre in Cyberjaya, scheduled to achieve Ready for Service (RFS) status by the second quarter of 2025, is designed with a robust 12MW IT load capacity and a floor loading capacity of 20kN/m2. This ensures the facility can handle extensive data processing and storage needs, underscoring its resilience in supporting heavy IT infrastructure. The seven-storey building is meticulously planned, with five levels dedicated to data centre halls, each housing two halls to ensure scalability and adaptability.

This partnership allows Velo Technologies to extend its established 24 x 7 support structure and policies to Infinaxis. Additionally, it enhances interconnectivity options through TelcoHubX’s ecosystem, broadening Velo Technologies’ portfolio with services such as a 24 x 7 Proactive Monitoring Centre, complete IT outsourcing, enterprise network and security services, cybersecurity and hybrid cloud solutions, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Backup as a Service (BaaS). These offerings promise to boost the reliability and redundancy of data centre operations, ensuring optimal uptime for clients.

Carrier-neutral approach ensures flexibility

Furthermore, the data centre’s carrier-neutral design enables seamless interconnection with multiple telecommunications carriers, offering clients flexibility in selecting their network providers. Tailored to meet the demanding requirements of AI applications, the facility supports higher power density deployment, with each rack averaging 8kW to 15kW. This makes it particularly suitable for mid-tier enterprises with moderate IT requirements, striking a balance between affordability and performance.

Zahri Mirza, CEO of Infinaxis, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are thrilled about our partnership with Velo Technologies, a leading managed service provider for data centre solutions. This expansion will allow us to work in tandem to offer a wider range of Malaysian businesses a truly extended suite of offerings.”

The creation of such data centre hubs through powerful partnerships represents a significant leap forward in enhancing Malaysia’s capacity for communication, digitalisation, and overall progress. This initiative aligns perfectly with the nation’s broader technological and industrial goals, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a burgeoning digital economy.
