In a heartfelt gesture marking its 60th anniversary, Malaysia’s home-grown personal care manufacturer Tohtonku Sdn Bhd is making a significant contribution to the B40 community and marginalized groups in the Klang Valley. The company is donating “Follow Me” products worth RM1 million, a testament to its commitment to giving back to the community that has supported it since its founding in 1964.
The donation includes essential personal care and hygiene products aimed at improving the quality of life and health for approximately 13,000 individuals. This initiative, part of Tohtonku’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign, underscores the importance of hygiene in preventing diseases, especially among the poor and socially disadvantaged who lack access to basic hygiene solutions.
Aiming for Healthier Communities
Speaking at the launch of the Tohtonku 60th Anniversary CSR campaign at The Lawn, Imazium Tower, Damansara Utama, Tohtonku executive director Jasper Lim highlighted the critical role of hygiene in disease prevention. “Diseases disproportionately affect the poor and socially disadvantaged members of society due to their inability to access hygiene solutions,” Lim said, citing the World Health Organization. “As such, Tohtonku hopes to give back to the community by raising awareness on the importance of good hygiene and distributing products that can be used by our communities to maintain a high level of hygiene.”
The company has partnered with several non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including Doctors without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the SOLs Foundation, to ensure the effective distribution of the donated products. Earlier in June, the first batch of products was distributed to PPR Taman Wahyu 2, PPR Seri Semarak, and the SOLs Foundation, benefiting 6,300 individuals. The latest batch is set to reach B40 communities in Sungai Besi, Keramat Permai, and Bandar Kinrara.
Reaching the Heart of the Community
The products, which include toothbrushes, hand sanitizers, moisturizers, cleansers, body wash, and shampoo, are essential for maintaining good personal hygiene. The initiative aims to extend its benefits to indigenous peoples, the differently-abled, and orphans among the B40 community.
Tohtonku’s collaborative efforts with charitable organizations such as Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras, Community at Heart, Rumah Raudhatul al-Feez, and Pertubuhan Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Home of Peace, are central to the success of this campaign. Representatives from these NGOs were present at the launch to receive the contributions, signifying a united effort to uplift the marginalized communities in the Klang Valley.
This landmark anniversary celebration not only highlights Tohtonku’s enduring presence in the personal care industry but also its unwavering dedication to social responsibility and community welfare.
