Batik Air reintroduces jets at Subang SkyPark

Batik Air returns to Subang SkyPark with Boeing 737s after 22 years, enhancing connectivity with new routes and business class options

Subang SkyPark (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) is buzzing with excitement as Batik Air marks a grand comeback, introducing its upgraded fleet, the Boeing 737. This momentous occasion sees the return of narrow-body jets to Subang SkyPark after 22 years, replacing the ATR service that ended in February 2024. Batik Air’s enhanced Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring dual-class cabins – Economy and Business Class – promises passengers increased comfort, bigger legroom, and improved efficiency.

Batik Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, expressed pride in the airline’s transformation, stating, “Passengers can enjoy comfort without compromising on value, making our airline the perfect choice for both business and leisure travel.” Business Class fares start as low as RM369 one way, inclusive of meals, a minimum of 30kg baggage allowance, and numerous priority benefits.

Boosting tourism and connectivity

Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Manoharan Periasamy, highlighted Subang SkyPark’s pivotal role as a city airport, poised to boost intercity travel and attract more tourists. “Subang SkyPark offers a unique advantage with its proximity to Kuala Lumpur. This makes travel incredibly convenient and attractive for both local and international tourists,” he noted. The relaunch is expected to significantly enhance connectivity for over eight million residents in the Klang Valley, reducing travel time and improving regional accessibility.

Periasamy also advocated for the expansion of international flights to and from Subang, positioning it as a viable alternative to KLIA and KLIA2. This strategic move aligns with Malaysia’s tourism objectives, aiming to draw more visitors and enhance the overall travel experience within the country.

Penang: A symbolic first destination

Batik Air commemorates this exciting chapter with the introduction of its first route from Subang SkyPark to Penang International Airport. Initially offering three flights weekly, the service will increase to daily from 15th August 2024. This choice of Penang reflects the airline’s deep-rooted connection with the city, harking back to its early days as Malindo Air in 2013, when it operated a modest fleet of two ATR aircraft, serving only Penang and Kota Bharu.
