Youth leaders empower public housing at K2K Session

Young leaders from Klang Valley public housing amplified their voices at the 3rd K2K Youth Session, driving community transformation.

The voices of young leaders among public housing communities were prominently raised at the latest K2K Youth Session, marking the third series of this empowering event. Officiated by Minister of Communications, YB Fahmi Fadzil, the session was organized by Think City and the Seri Cempaka Youth Association (PBSC) under the Kita-untuk-Kita (K2K) Programme.

This initiative brought together more than 38 young leaders from 10 public housing areas in the Klang Valley, aiming to involve youth as partners in Malaysia’s developmental journey towards Malaysia Madani.

Addressing key issues and empowering youth

The recent K2K Youth Session focused on several critical topics, notably amplifying youth voices to discuss and propose solutions for major issues faced by public housing communities. Coinciding with the National Month 2024 celebration, the session emphasized the principles of Rukun Negara and the values of Malaysia Madani as guiding frameworks for empowering youth from public housing areas.

Through the three sessions held so far, a total of 26 resolutions have been formulated addressing socio-economic concerns, entrepreneurship, law compliance, and mental health. These resolutions are set to be presented to relevant federal ministries and agencies, with the aim of integrating youth perspectives into the national development agenda and the 2025 Budget.

A new chapter in community empowerment

Dato’ Hamdan Abdul Majeed, Managing Director of Think City, highlighted the transformative impact of the K2K Youth Session. “The K2K Youth Session has opened a new chapter in community empowerment and public housing transformation efforts. Renewing the surroundings at public housing communities can only occur through a bottom-up approach with active and continuous community participation. Initiatives like this should be expanded so that more public housing community members, especially the youth, can get involved and lead transformation efforts towards the creation of liveable, sustainable, and inclusive cities,” he remarked.

Supported by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, the K2K programme aims to enhance the quality of life and liveability in public housing areas. The K2K Youth Session is a platform within this programme specifically designed for public housing youth to become proactive movers and participants in their communities.

With a new generation of community movers emerging, the momentum for public housing transformation is growing, significantly contributing to the formation of a Malaysia Madani society.
