Encore Melaka to host historic ‘Puteri Hang Li Po’ musical

Istana Budaya revives “Puteri Hang Li Po” at Encore Melaka, celebrating 50 years of Malaysia-China ties with a fresh, culturally rich performance.

After two decades, Istana Budaya is set to re-stage the renowned musical theatre production “Puteri Hang Li Po” (TMPHLP) in a significant celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China. The performance will be held at Encore Melaka from October 3 to 6, 2024.

This revival will breathe new life into the classic production with 32 new musical arrangements, including songs, dances, and storytelling melodies, all performed by a 49-piece orchestra led by the esteemed music director, Mohd Yazid Zakaria.

A spectacle of heritage and innovation

The 2024 production of TMPHLP aims to surpass the original 2004 staging by incorporating fresh artistic elements while maintaining the high quality for which Istana Budaya is known. YBrs. Puan Zubaidah Mukhtar, a key figure in the production, expressed confidence that the creative team’s expertise will elevate the musical to a new level.
