In celebration of World Pharmacist Day on September 25, Alpro Pharmacy, Malaysia’s largest prescription pharmacy chain, launched its newest outlet at KidZania Kuala Lumpur today. This marks a significant milestone as Alpro becomes the only pharmacy in KidZania, a child-centric, interactive city that offers over 70 role-play activities for children to explore various professions through realistic and immersive experiences.
Ph. Lim En Ni, the Engagement Director and Chief Pharmacist of Alpro Pharmacy, shared the company’s vision for this expansion. “Our expansion to KidZania Kuala Lumpur aligns with our vision for a healthy and vibrant world. At Alpro Pharmacy, our mission is to provide opportunities, health, and guidance to anyone striving for a better life. It’s essential to introduce children early to the crucial role pharmacists play in their lives, particularly in ensuring medication safety,” said Lim.
The new Alpro outlet at KidZania is designed to immerse children in the role of a community pharmacist, allowing them to explore real-life experiences through interactive activities.
Learning the role of a pharmacist
At the new Alpro Pharmacy outlet, children can participate in 20-minute interactive activities, where they will step into the shoes of a community pharmacist. One of the key features is a compounding lab where children, with guidance from professional pharmacists, can create their own soothing gel. This gel, designed to calm eczema and relieve minor burns, allows children to learn about pharmaceutical care in a hands-on way.
“KidZania’s unique setting allows us to engage children through role-play activities that develop their critical thinking, self-knowledge, and creativity. It also promotes life-shaping values such as respect, responsibility, and integrity,” said Lim.
Children visiting the pharmacy can take home their personalized soothing gel, adding a tangible and meaningful element to their learning experience.
Supporting Malaysia’s healthcare needs
During the launch event, Ph. Lim also emphasized the theme for this year’s World Pharmacist Day, ‘Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs,’ highlighting the role of community pharmacists in addressing Malaysia’s health challenges. With the country projected to transition into an ageing nation by 2030, Lim pointed out the crucial support pharmacists provide in combating chronic conditions like eczema and non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
“With more than 300 outlets nationwide, our community pharmacists are accessible and available to serve the community on primary healthcare and disease prevention. Apart from advice on medication, we also provide services such as smoking cessation, family planning and pain management. What’s more, is that our operation hours are longer than most hospitals and clinics, and talking to us doesn’t require any appointment, and no consultation fees will be charged,” Lim stated.
The Alpro Pharmacy at KidZania Kuala Lumpur is located on the Upper Floor wellness area, opposite the hospital, and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
