The Keretapi Sarong event, has become a yearly tradition held in conjunction with Malaysia Day on September 16. This year’s event, organized by Locco, marks the eighth edition since it began in 2016. What started as a casual movement to celebrate Malaysia’s cultural diversity has evolved into a much-anticipated national event.
Participants gathered at train stations, dressed in traditional clothing such as sarong, baju kurung, and songket, symbolizing the harmonious blend of cultures that define Malaysia. The event culminated at a “secret location,” later revealed to be Lanai@Matic, in Kuala Lumpur’s Malaysian Tourism Centre. Thousands of participants recited the Rukun Negara alongside Khairul Aming, echoing a sense of shared pride in their identity as Malaysians.
