Miss MalaysiaIndian Global 2024 crowns Maliney Pohs; event celebrates heritage, talent, and awards scholarships to B40 students.

The highly anticipated 25th Annual Miss MalaysiaIndian Global 2024 concluded with grandeur at the Grand Ballroom, Premiere Hotel in Bukit Tinggi, Klang, on Saturday evening. Organized by MMICARE Association, the event was a celebration of Malaysian Indian heritage, resilience, and beauty, featuring 14 talented finalists competing for the prestigious title.

A memorable victory for Maliney Pohs

In a night filled with excitement and elegance, Miss Maliney Pohs emerged victorious, claiming the title of Miss MalaysiaIndian Global 2024. Along with the title, Pohs received a full Master’s scholarship from Veritas University, a round-trip ticket to Seoul sponsored by Batik Air, a traditional Kanchipuram silk saree from Pattu Shastra, a bridal lengha suit, and a cash prize of RM5,000.

Reflecting on her triumph, Pohs, an Assistant Director with the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environmental Sustainability, expressed her excitement: “I am honoured to work with MMICARE to inspire and empower women during my reign. It was indeed a pleasure sharing the stage with other aspiring and talented participants.”

Joining her in the spotlight, Dr. Hasvene Kaur Hermath Singh and Ms. Yoshanaa Chelvam were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. Each received remarkable prizes in recognition of their talents and contributions. The Top 5 winners of the evening were as follows:

The pageant also highlighted the exceptional skills of participants by awarding subsidiary titles. Dr. Hasvene Kaur won both Miss Talent and Miss Elegance, while Navena Mahlarr Rabindran was named the Community Ambassador and Miss Web Popular. Other subsidiary winners included:

Small education grants

In addition to the beauty pageant, the event underscored MMICARE Association’s commitment to supporting education within the Malaysian Indian community. During the evening, Chief Guest YABhg Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, President of PEKAWANIS Selangor and wife of Selangor Menteri Besar, presented Small Education Grants to deserving students from B40 backgrounds. The 2024 initiative, unlike previous years, aims to help students with daily meal allowances while pursuing higher education.

This year, 13 beneficiaries received grants totaling RM3,000 each, providing vital support for meals as they continue their studies. MMICARE Association, established in 2008, has a long-standing tradition of empowering young women through education, particularly in STEM fields.

Dr. Lavanya Sivaji, MMICARE’s president, emphasized the program’s ongoing impact: “Our Small Grant programme was a result of inputs from various sympathetic public university lecturers. We have been giving out no obligation small grants to girls in STEM programmes since 2008. These grants can be used to pay any expenses they incur in the course of their studies. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering individuals through education and personal empowerment”

The evolution of Miss MalaysiaIndian Global

Since its founding in 2000 by Pushparani Thilaganathan, Miss MalaysiaIndian Global has continued to evolve while remaining relevant to Malaysian Indian women’s aspirations. Open to participants aged 19-30, the pageant has established itself as a personal empowerment program, offering workshops on self-improvement, confidence, and professional growth.

This year’s pageant was proudly supported by Global Specialty Ingredients (GSI), a leading provider of natural and functional food ingredients. GSI’s support exemplifies the community and corporate partnerships that uphold the pageant’s mission.
