In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the D’Tandoor Group of Restaurants organized a special Hi-Tea event at its newest location in Signature Avenue, Bukit Mertajam on Saturday (Oct 12).
The event, which started at 4 pm, brought together prominent figures and representatives from various cancer-related NGOs to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Among the distinguished attendees were D’Tandoor founder Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Malik Abdullah, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) Mayor Dato’ Haji Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid, and former state education director of Dato Haji Abdul Said Hussain.
In his opening remarks, Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Malik emphasized the importance of education, early detection, and community support in battling breast cancer, a disease that impacts millions worldwide.
“It is important that early detection, education, and community support, and regular screenings and self-examinations are equally crucial in improving survival rates,” he said in his speech.
He also highlighted the need for stronger support systems for those affected by the disease, urging the community to unite in providing care and resources.
D’Tandoor’s commitment to the community
With over 40 years of experience in the culinary industry, Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Malik is a highly respected figure, renowned for his contributions to both private and large-scale events. He founded D’Tandoor in 1984, and since then, the restaurant has flourished, with its first outlet opening in Damansara Utama in 1990.
Today, D’Tandoor operates 15 branches across Malaysia and internationally, offering a mix of authentic North Indian cuisine with modern twists. Its newest branch, D’Tandoor Signature in Bukit Mertajam, was officially opened in September 2023 by state governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak. This two-story restaurant, with a seating capacity of 150, is ideal for hosting private parties and corporate events in a bustling area.
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, D’Tandoor has leveraged its platform to promote healthier lifestyles and spread valuable information on cancer prevention. The restaurant actively encourages the community to prioritize early detection and access essential resources for breast cancer awareness.
Attendees at the event savored D’Tandoor’s signature dishes, including Murgh Bamboo Biryani and Butter Chicken Masala, alongside popular drinks like Mango Lassi, Teh Tarik, and their famous Masala Tea.
By blending its culinary expertise with a meaningful cause, D’Tandoor continues to demonstrate its dedication to making a positive impact on the community.
Pink Walk programme announcement
During a press conference held after the event, Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Malik announced who is also the vice president of Yayasan Kasih Kanser dan Kronik said the foundation will organise Pink Walk programme in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“The annual programme will be held at Mydin Mall in Tunjong Kota Baharu on Oct 19.
“The programme will be officiated by Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajjah Noor Hayati Binti Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj,” he said.
Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Malik highlighted the significance of reaching out to rural areas, where awareness about cancer is often limited. He also expected some 2000 participants to participate in the programme.
