Five Malaysian runners, supported by New Balance, inspire at TCS New York City Marathon 2024, showcasing resilience, diversity, and personal triumph.

Five inspiring Malaysian runners, supported by New Balance Malaysia, recently took on the TCS New York City Marathon 2024, an event that set a world record with 55,646 finishers. As part of New Balance’s “Run Your Way” campaign, the runners embodied the diversity and determination that define both the marathon and the broader running community.

This campaign aimed to celebrate individuality in running, encouraging participants to embrace their unique stories and goals. Among the Malaysian team was Ann Pow, a former SEA Games athlete and triathlete, who exemplified how endurance extends beyond disciplines. Adzale Ainuddin, a rower-turned-marathoner, highlighted how competitive spirit transcends physical activities, while Rachelle Loong, a national Latin dance champion, carried her rhythm and grace to the marathon track.

Complementing the team were Nik Danial, a Muay Thai fighter channeling his mental toughness into distance running, and Nurfitri Najwa, better known as Kak Fit, a fitness influencer whose journey inspires thousands.

Training in the Big Apple

Before the marathon, the runners joined New Balance-sponsored events in New York City, participating in shakeout runs and pop-up activities. These sessions allowed them to warm up physically while connecting with runners from diverse backgrounds.

Through these activities, the Malaysian runners shared stories, exchanged insights, and found fresh motivation to tackle the grueling 42.195-kilometre course through the five boroughs of New York City.

Overcoming challenges on race day

On race day, the Malaysians faced an unexpected challenge: New York’s cold November weather. Accustomed to Malaysia’s tropical climate, they had to adapt quickly to the frigid conditions, embodying the resilience celebrated in New Balance’s “Run Your Way” philosophy.
