BookXcess launches innovative 1-for-1 book donation drive

BookXcess launches “Read It Forward” campaign, pledging 50,000 books to underserved communities through a unique 1-for-1 donation model.

BookXcess, Malaysia’s leading alternative bookstore, has unveiled its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the “Read It Forward” campaign, aimed at fostering a culture of reading among underprivileged communities. Collaborating with Big Bad Wolf Books, this campaign seeks to distribute 50,000 English books to orphanages, charities, and social enterprises across Malaysia, including notable beneficiaries like Fugee School and Kiwanis Malaysia.

Running from November to December 2024, the campaign introduces an innovative 1-for-1 donation model. For every book purchased by a customer at any of BookXcess’s 23 outlets nationwide, the bookstore will match the purchase with an additional book donation to selected beneficiaries.

“We believe access to knowledge is a fundamental right and the key to unlocking a brighter future,” said Andrew Yap, Co-founder and Managing Director of BookXcess. “Through ‘Read It Forward,’ we’re not just donating books—we’re planting seeds of hope and learning in communities that need it most. We invite individuals and businesses to join us in fostering a love for reading and enhancing English literacy among Malaysians.”

Empowering Communities Through Literacy

The campaign emphasizes the transformative power of reading by targeting underserved groups, particularly children in B40 communities. By providing English books, “Read It Forward” aims to enhance literacy and language skills, equipping young readers with tools to excel academically and professionally.

Contributing to the initiative is simple: customers can select and donate books by placing them in designated baskets at BookXcess stores. Each donation is then matched by the bookstore, ensuring a multiplier effect that amplifies the campaign’s impact.

The campaign goes beyond merely distributing books; it seeks to cultivate a culture of lifelong learning and open doors to opportunities for children who might otherwise lack access to essential educational resources.

Join the Movement

BookXcess is calling on the public and corporate partners to join this meaningful cause. The campaign provides a chance for individuals and businesses to contribute to a brighter future by making books accessible to children and families who may never have had the privilege of owning one.

The public’s participation will directly support initiatives that empower communities through education and literacy. By joining “Read It Forward,” participants play a vital role in shaping the next generation’s passion for learning and discovery.
