Cyberview, Futurise propel drone sports at DRIFT 2024

Cyberview and Futurise launch Cyberjaya Drone Hub, NADSAR roadmap, and CDH programme, boosting Malaysia’s drone innovation and talent development.

Cyberview Sdn. Bhd. (Cyberview) and its subsidiary Futurise Sdn. Bhd. (Futurise) have made significant strides in advancing Malaysia’s position in drone innovation and talent development. At the recently concluded Drone Hub Innovation for Future Talents (DRIFT) 2024 event, the organisations unveiled several groundbreaking initiatives, including the Cyberjaya Drone Hub, the National Drone Sports Strategic Roadmap (NADSAR) 2023–2027, and the Cyberjaya Drone Hero (CDH) program.

Cyberview’s Chief Executive Officer, Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad, expressed the importance of DRIFT 2024 in further cementing Cyberjaya’s status as Malaysia’s technological nerve centre. “Cyberjaya has been at the heart of Malaysia’s digital journey since the MSC days, evolving into a thriving ecosystem for technology, talent, and innovation. Today, we are proud to take another step forward, solidifying Cyberjaya as Malaysia’s Drone Hub,” he said.

Cyberjaya Drone Hub: A Centre of Excellence

The Cyberjaya Drone Hub aims to position Cyberjaya as a hub for a vibrant drone ecosystem, focusing on talent cultivation, commercialisation, community engagement, and industrial innovation. This initiative builds on Cyberjaya’s existing facilities, such as the Drone Testing Zone (DTZ), which has been instrumental in training over 2,300 remote pilots and logging more than 2,000 flight hours since 2019.

The Drone Hub also facilitates innovation through partnerships with organisations like Drone Academy Asia, one of the first Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM)-approved Remote Pilot Training Organisations. These efforts ensure that Malaysia stays ahead in drone technology and regulatory standards.

NADSAR 2023–2027: A Blueprint for Drone Sports

A highlight of DRIFT 2024 was the introduction of the National Drone Sports Strategic Roadmap (NADSAR) 2023–2027, spearheaded by Futurise through the National Academy for Drone Sports Excellence (AKSADRON). This roadmap outlines a comprehensive strategy to enhance drone sports in Malaysia by developing talent, strengthening industry partnerships, and refining regulations.

NADSAR aligns with the government’s Visi Sukan Negara 2030 to promote emerging sports and technological advancements. By integrating drone sports into this vision, the roadmap positions Malaysia as a regional leader in this innovative field.

Inspiring the Next Generation

The Cyberjaya Drone Hero (CDH) program was launched as a key pillar under the Cyberjaya Drone Hub. This initiative focuses on nurturing talent through STEM-based training, competitive platforms, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies. To date, the program has trained over 200 students from 14 academic institutions nationwide, including SMK Cyberjaya and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Through collaborations with institutions like Drone Academy Asia and UMPSA Advanced, the CDH program extends opportunities for hands-on experience and grassroots engagement in drone sports. “As we move forward, Cyberview is committed to creating an inclusive and dynamic drone ecosystem. Through today’s engagements, let’s spark new ideas, collaborations, and inspiration to build a future that thrives on innovation and talent,” added Kamarul Ariffin.

Forging a Global Drone Innovation Hub

The success of DRIFT 2024 underscores Cyberview and Futurise’s dedication to transforming Cyberjaya into a global leader in drone innovation. The signing of two Letters of Intent (LOIs) during the event further highlighted this commitment. Cyberview partnered with Drone Academy Asia, while Futurise collaborated with UMPSA Advanced to bolster talent development and industry innovation.

Beyond its technological advancements, DRIFT 2024 emphasised the importance of community engagement. Schools, universities, and local stakeholders are integral to driving participation and creating a tech-savvy culture that celebrates the potential of drone sports.
