The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has marked a significant milestone by securing the Startup Ecosystem Stars (SES) 2024 award in the “Exceptional Industry Support” category. Presented in Paris, France, this accolade by USA-based Mind the Bridge (MTB) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) places Malaysia firmly on the global innovation map. The award honours MDEC’s outstanding contributions to building a thriving digital ecosystem and supporting the nation’s digital economy.
The SES Awards are among the world’s most prestigious recognitions for startup ecosystem enablers, celebrating transformative initiatives in entrepreneurship and digital transformation. MDEC’s win underscores Malaysia’s position as a competitive global player and reaffirms its leadership in the digital economy.
Celebrating Global Collaboration
Representing MDEC at the Paris ceremony was the Trade Commissioner of MATRADE Paris, reflecting a dynamic partnership between MDEC and MATRADE. This collaboration highlights MATRADE’s vital role in expanding Malaysia’s digital reach through market access initiatives.
MATRADE’s support underscores the collective effort required to position Malaysia as a global leader in digital innovation. “This award reflects the strong partnerships and shared commitment to fostering growth and creating international opportunities for Malaysian tech companies,” a MATRADE spokesperson stated.

Transforming Malaysia’s Digital Economy
MDEC’s ongoing initiatives, including the Malaysia Digital (MD) national strategic programme, are reshaping the country’s digital landscape. Between 2020 and 2023, MDEC’s Funding Facilitation programmes supported 262 Malaysian tech companies in raising a total of USD 402 million. These efforts are crucial in cementing Malaysia’s reputation as a leading digital hub in ASEAN.
This SES award serves as a testament to MDEC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and globally competitive digital ecosystem.
