Anime enthusiasts were treated to a spectacular conclusion to Comic Fiesta 2024 as Japanese artistes Suzuki Konomi and MYTH & ROID vocalist KIHOW delivered electrifying performances at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) plenary hall. Co-organised by Comic Fiesta, the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), and the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, the concert on December 22 drew a capacity crowd of 2,994, solidifying the artistes’ enduring appeal in the anime music genre.
The night opened with KIHOW’s mesmerizing vocals, as she set the tone with Paradisus-Paradoxum, the second opening theme for Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World. The vocalist’s powerful renditions of hits like VORACITY, Endless Embrace, and STYX HELIX left the audience in awe, culminating in a thrilling finale featuring L.L.L, MYTH & ROID’s debut single.
Iconic Tracks and Unforgettable Performances
KIHOW’s return to Malaysia after a six-year hiatus was highly anticipated, and her setlist did not disappoint. With a career that has garnered over 500 million views on music videos and content, KIHOW captivated fans with her flawless execution of beloved tracks. Highlights included ACHE in PULSE, featured in Arknights: Perish in Frost, and the recently released NOX LUX, the ending theme for Re:ZERO’s third season.
Fans also enjoyed tracks from the band’s acclaimed albums, such as shadowgraph and HYDRA, showcasing MYTH & ROID’s versatility and enduring influence in the anisong industry.
Suzuki Konomi Steals the Spotlight
Suzuki Konomi, returning to Comic Fiesta after her performance in 2022, kept the energy alive with her dynamic setlist. Opening with Redo, the first opening theme for Re:ZERO, she seamlessly transitioned into crowd favorites such as Ao no Kanata from Between the Sky and Sea and THERE IS A REASON from No Game No Life: Zero.
Known for her exceptional vocal range and emotive delivery, Suzuki Konomi’s set also featured If I Sing, You Will Be There, the opening theme for Lost Song, and DAYS of DASH, the ending theme for The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Her performance was a testament to her journey since debuting at the age of 15 and winning the 5th All Japan Animation Song Grand Prix.
Closing the event with an electrifying encore, Suzuki Konomi performed Blow out, the opening theme for Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor. The performance, live-streamed on her Instagram, drew rapturous applause, leaving fans exhilarated as Comic Fiesta 2024 came to a close.
