AmLife’s sleep health showcase highlights rising sleep disorders

AmLife marks a decade of sleep advocacy with its World Sleep Day 2025 showcase, highlighting rising sleep disorders and innovative wellness solutions.

In conjunction with World Sleep Day 2025, themed “Make Sleep Health A Priority”, AmLife International successfully hosted its 10th annual public education showcase, attracting over 1,000 participants to learn about sleep health. The event underscored the urgent need for better sleep habits, with experts warning about the increasing prevalence of sleep disorders in Malaysia.

Prominent sleep health leaders from organizations including the World Sleep Society (WSS), Taiwan Sleep Care Association, and University Malaya Specialist Centre officiated the initiative. The extensive sleep education campaign spanned across Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, further solidifying AmLife’s regional commitment to sleep wellness.

Findings from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023 by the Ministry of Health revealed that two in five Malaysian adults (38%) do not get enough sleep daily, while a staggering 90% suffer from at least one sleep disorder. Experts at the event highlighted how these sleep issues contribute to serious health risks, including cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and cognitive decline.

AmLife’s Commitment to Sleep Wellness

Founder and CEO of AmLife International, Mr. Lew Mun Yee, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to promoting quality sleep. “2025 marks AmLife’s 10th consecutive year of hosting World Sleep Day. This year, we introduced an exclusive public sleep health exhibition for the first time, championing quality sleep for a healthier life through community alliances and collaboration,” he stated.

The exhibition featured leading Malaysian sleep health companies, showcasing cutting-edge sleep technology, products, and interactive activities. Consultants were on hand to provide personalized guidance, helping attendees identify tailored solutions to improve their sleep habits.

“For a decade, AmLife has been at the forefront of advocating better sleep health in Malaysia. As more Malaysians experience sleep disorders, we strive to drive public education and bring clinically backed solutions to the community. This exhibition marks a milestone in our journey to help Malaysians achieve restorative sleep,” added Mr. Lew.

Health Experts Warn of Sleep Deprivation Dangers

World Sleep Society expert, Dr. Eyad Almasri, a Clinical Professor and Sleep Medicine Specialist from the United States, highlighted the severe health risks associated with sleep deprivation. He pointed out that poor sleep is linked to cardiovascular diseases, dementia, and depression. “Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a major concern, as it has been associated with hypertension, coronary artery disease, and stroke,” said Dr. Eyad.

He further explained that dementia risk increases with age and is more prevalent in women. Scientific research has identified beta-amyloid, a waste protein that accumulates in the brain, as a primary contributor to dementia.

“The brain has a natural cleansing system that removes beta-amyloid, primarily during sleep. Sleep deprivation prevents this process, leading to a buildup of the protein, which significantly increases the risk of dementia,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Dr. Julius Goh, Head & Neck Surgeon from University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC), emphasized that OSA not only affects sleep quality but also raises the risk of obesity and diabetes.

“Clinical research shows that OSA disrupts hormonal balance, increases hunger levels, and slows metabolism, making weight gain more likely. Additionally, OSA can trigger insulin resistance, heightening the risk of Type 2 diabetes,” Dr. Julius explained.

Clinical Research and Sleep Innovations Unveiled

AmLife also presented findings from new clinical trials conducted by Taiwan’s China Medical University Hospital and Kuang Tien General Hospital. The research demonstrated that AmLife’s Smart Sleep Wellness Device effectively increases core body temperature in individuals with hypothermia, aiding in symptom recovery.

Additionally, studies found that Electric Potential Therapy can enhance sleep quality, providing a non-invasive approach to better rest.

Renowned radio deejay and entrepreneur, Mr. Chan Fong, who attended the event as the ambassador of World Sleep Day, shared his personal experience on the importance of sleep.

“Sleep has a profound impact on my daily performance and energy levels. I applaud AmLife for their continuous efforts in raising awareness and making sleep health a national conversation. It’s time we take sleep seriously,” he said.

With Malaysia facing a sleep health crisis, AmLife’s decade-long commitment to public education remains a beacon of hope, pushing for better sleep habits and innovative solutions for a healthier nation.
