IWAKL hosts charity iftar to support marginalised communities

IWAKL’s inaugural Ramadan charity iftar supports orphans, single mothers, and PWDs with financial aid, food baskets, and festive gifts.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the International Women’s Association Kuala Lumpur (IWAKL) has launched its inaugural public charity event, IWAKL Iftar Infaq Tautan Kasih Ramadan 2025 (Ramadan Bonds of Love Charity Iftar). Held at Dorsett Grand Subang, the event aims to extend assistance to orphans, single mothers, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) during the holy month of Ramadan.

The initiative, part of IWAKL’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy, saw the distribution of financial aid, food baskets, and festive gifts to over 100 beneficiaries from various communities.

During the charity iftar, IWAKL President Sherrie Aljunied-Eitler presented three mock cheques, each worth RM2,000, to three key beneficiaries: Rumah Amal Baitul Kasih, Rawang, Mahaad Tahfiz Al-Falahiyyah, Shah Alam, and OKU Sentral. This symbolic gesture was witnessed by Nurin Aina Abdullah, Political Secretary to the Minister of Federal Territories, and IWAKL Advisory Council member Datin Norazizah Borhan.

In addition to the financial assistance, 90 orphans received new Baju Raya and goodies, while 20 single mothers and four PWD representatives were gifted food baskets and individual care packages.

IWAKL’s charity efforts focus on supporting vulnerable communities through tangible contributions and fostering a spirit of compassion. The event provided beneficiaries with an opportunity to enjoy a warm iftar meal while embracing the essence of Ramadan together.

A Commitment to Social Responsibility

Speaking at the event, IWAKL President Sherrie Aljunied-Eitler emphasised the association’s dedication to uplifting marginalised groups through philanthropy.

“IWAKL continues to uphold our commitment to community support and social responsibility with our latest philanthropy initiative at this memorable event. IWAKL volunteers dedicated their time and resources to providing much-needed support for orphans and Asnaf children, single mothers, caretakers, and representatives of the PWD community during the blessed month of Ramadan, reinforcing our mission to make a positive impact across marginalised and vulnerable communities in Malaysia and worldwide,” she said.

The association has a history of engaging in charitable activities to address the needs of underprivileged groups locally and internationally. Through initiatives like the Ramadan Bonds of Love Charity Iftar, IWAKL aims to bridge gaps and extend compassionate care to those who need it most.

Strengthening Community Bonds

The event was graced by Nurin Aina Abdullah on behalf of YB Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Minister of Federal Territories. It also welcomed foreign dignitaries, including the Ambassador of Bosnia-Herzegovina, alongside sponsors, volunteers, and members of both local and international communities.

This collaborative effort was made possible through strategic partnerships with corporate sponsors and individual donors. Key supporters of the event included Dorsett Grand Subang, Tropicana Twister, and Koperasi Usahawan Alam Shah Berhad, who contributed resources to ensure the success of the charity drive.

The IWAKL Iftar Infaq Tautan Kasih Ramadan 2025 not only provided immediate relief to beneficiaries but also fostered a sense of unity and generosity among participants.

By hosting an inclusive iftar and providing meaningful assistance, IWAKL reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare of vulnerable groups while celebrating the values of compassion and community support during Ramadan.
