Global specialty chemicals leader Sika has reinforced its long-term commitment to Malaysia with the official opening of its new corporate headquarters in Bangsar South. The relocation marks a strategic consolidation of commercial and support functions under one roof, designed to enhance operational efficiency and support the company’s growing local presence.
The new headquarters brings together 150 employees from various departments, part of Sika Malaysia’s nationwide team of 420. The centralized workspace is aimed at improving coordination across departments, expediting decision-making, and enabling stronger internal collaboration as the company scales up to meet rising demand in a fast-evolving construction landscape.
Stronger local presence
Sika Malaysia’s local footprint has steadily expanded since its entry into the market more than three decades ago. Backed by a global network spanning over 100 countries, the company has been instrumental in delivering high-performance construction materials and technical expertise to major national projects.
These include marquee developments such as the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT), Merdeka 118, the Penang Bridge, and an upcoming data centre at Elmina Park. Additionally, Sika has played a critical role in numerous residential developments throughout the country.
With 75% of its product offerings locally manufactured, Sika operates a network of facilities across Nilai, Teluk Gong, Bukit Raja, Ipoh, Senai, Gelang Patah, and Kota Kinabalu. The Nilai facility remains the core production hub, while Bukit Raja serves as a strategic distribution centre for specialty flooring systems that are exported across Asia.
“Our role is to help customers build better—not just stronger buildings, but more durable and efficient ones that are built to last,” said Francisco Retondo, General Manager of Sika Malaysia. “We’re encouraged by what we see in the market. Industrial growth, digital infrastructure, and more complex construction requirements are all pushing the sector forward.”
Catering to high-spec demands
Sika’s latest moves come in response to a growing demand for high-specification construction solutions, particularly in sectors such as digital infrastructure and industrial development. The rapid rise in data centre projects has created a need for materials that meet demanding performance requirements, especially in areas like waterproofing, fire resistance, energy efficiency, and flooring durability.
“We’re having meaningful conversations with clients who are planning for the long term, and we’re ready to support that,” Retondo added. “There’s still a long runway.”
The company has also strengthened its portfolio through strategic acquisitions—including the MBCC Group and ParexGroup—as well as local partnerships such as its recent tie-up with Dr. Grout Malaysia. This collaboration has expanded Sika’s capabilities in tile restoration and surface finishing, helping it respond to more diverse market needs.
Sustainability at the core
Sustainability remains a core focus for Sika Malaysia as it aligns with the global group’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The company is actively pursuing interim goals through the Science Based Targets initiative, while implementing tangible changes on the ground.
Local initiatives include the adoption of solar energy at its facilities, the deployment of electric forklifts, and the increased use of supplementary cementitious materials to cut down carbon emissions. Furthermore, the company is exploring sustainable sourcing practices using renewable or recycled raw materials and is also working to reduce packaging waste across operations.
Internally, Sika Malaysia is investing in staff development programs to better align teams with its environmental objectives and the shifting demands of the construction sector.
Outpacing industry growth
Sika Malaysia concluded 2024 with over 15% revenue growth and is targeting between 10% and 15% growth in 2025—well above the national forecast of 5.4% for the construction sector. The expected momentum will come from digital infrastructure, industrial facilities, and high-performance infrastructure projects that require longer warranties and superior technical standards.
With its new headquarters serving as a catalyst for enhanced agility and customer responsiveness, Sika Malaysia appears well-positioned to not only maintain but extend its leadership in the local construction solutions market.
