Trip.com Malaysia employees recently came together in a meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, assembling 30 brand-new bicycles for Orang Asli communities in Pahang. More than 65 employees participated in the hands-on bike-building effort, which not only fostered teamwork but also underscored the company’s commitment to uplifting underprivileged communities across Malaysia.
The effort was carried out in collaboration with the Great Heart Charity Association, a local non-profit platform that has long supported marginalised groups. Together, both organisations ensured the bicycles reached three Orang Asli villages in Pahang: Kampung Sawak Tebu Hitam in Kuala Rompin, Kampung Simpai in Bebar, Muadzam Shah, and Kampung Selengkong in Nenasi, Pekan.
Bridging distance with mobility
These villages, located 20 to 35 kilometres from the nearest towns, face daily challenges due to limited access to public facilities and essential utilities. For many families, mobility is a pressing issue that affects education, employment, and basic needs.
The donated bicycles are expected to bring immediate benefits, providing children with safer and faster routes to school, while helping adults travel to farms, fishing spots, and nearby towns for work or supplies.
“These bicycles serve as more than just a new means of transport. They also open up opportunities for these villages to have improved access to education, employment, and basic necessities,” said Ms Stephane Thong, General Manager of Trip.com Malaysia.
A commitment beyond travel
Beyond its core business as a global travel service provider, Trip.com Malaysia continues to strengthen its role in advancing community well-being. The company has pledged to support initiatives that make a sustainable and lasting impact.
“This initiative is rooted in our global mission to forge a better future for travel and to create lasting positive impact. We are proud to support the Orang Asli community and hope that the bicycles will ease everyday challenges for many families,” Ms Thong added.
Through such efforts, Trip.com Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to social responsibility, proving that the travel industry can play an active role in building stronger and more resilient communities.
