World Heart Day celebration inspires healthier lifestyle

The MADANI Heroes Tour 2025 at HSIS on Oct 4 spotlighted heart health awareness while promoting healthier lifestyles nationwide.

Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) hosted the MADANI Heroes Tour 2025 in conjunction with World Heart Day on 4 October 2025. Themed “Don’t Miss a Beat,” the celebration was officiated by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, marking a significant push towards strengthening cardiac treatment across government hospitals.

The Health Minister highlighted that bolstering cardiac care services is essential in ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare, especially as cardiovascular diseases continue to be a leading cause of death in Malaysia. The government’s ongoing efforts to enhance cardiac units, improve early detection, and expand public education initiatives reflect its commitment to combating lifestyle-related diseases through both policy and community engagement.

Empowering Malaysians through awareness

Heart disease continues to pose a major health challenge in Malaysia, fueled by sedentary habits, poor dietary choices, and limited awareness of cardiovascular risks. The MADANI Heroes Tour aimed to bridge this gap by emphasizing prevention through education and lifestyle change.

The programme encouraged Malaysians to take charge of their own heart health — from regular exercise and balanced diets to managing stress and undergoing routine health screenings. Various activities, including a Fun Run/Walk, blood donation drive, health screenings, and informative exhibitions, offered participants practical insights into maintaining heart wellness. Health talks, mobile clinics, and even a JPJ service counter added further value, turning the event into a one-stop platform for community engagement and convenience.

In his opening remarks, HSIS Director YBrs. Dr. Farique Rizal bin Abdul Hamid reinforced the hospital’s commitment to preventive healthcare and its role in fostering public awareness. His message underscored that maintaining heart health is a shared responsibility — one that requires collective effort from individuals, communities, and the healthcare system alike.

Inspiring healthier communities

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Ihsan Contribution, where 500 HSIS staff received RM100 each as a gesture of national gratitude for their service and dedication. The initiative symbolized appreciation for the unwavering efforts of healthcare workers who continue to serve on the frontlines of the nation’s public health system.

The celebration, which drew over 1,000 participants, concluded with a showcase of heart-themed exhibitions and wellness demonstrations. These interactive segments served as powerful reminders that heart health extends beyond hospitals — it begins at home, in workplaces, and within communities.
