Point College’s AI-Powered Animation Masterclass trains 100 creators

Point College’s AI masterclass trained 100 creators nationwide, boosting skills, collaboration and digital storytelling innovation.

Point College has concluded its three-batch AI-Powered Animation Masterclass, successfully training more than 100 creators from across Malaysia. Supported by a grant from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the initiative offered an immersive, hands-on experience in AI-assisted animation, opening new pathways for digital storytelling and creative entrepreneurship.

Founded by Professor Yoki Chin, Point College has long championed the fusion of traditional artistry with emerging technologies. The masterclass reflected this vision, becoming a dedicated space where creators could experiment with cutting-edge AI tools while benefiting from a nurturing learning environment.

From the outset, participants experienced more than a technical workshop. Professor Yoki, instructor Teddy, and the college’s energetic team ensured that every learner was welcomed, guided, and engaged. Warm camaraderie, supportive facilitation, and even excellent food contributed to an atmosphere where creativity flourished.

AI tools accelerate creative output

Across three intensive days per batch, participants explored platforms such as FUTURE Studios, FizzDragon and other AI-driven systems. Within days, they produced animated sequences, characters, and cinematic shorts — work that would traditionally require weeks of manual effort. The programme emphasised not just tool adoption, but creative expansion, enabling storytellers to push the boundaries of what they thought was possible.

An unusually diverse mix of creatives — from animators and illustrators to filmmakers, advertisers, and digital artists — participated in the masterclass. The energy was electric as they navigated the full AI animation pipeline: character creation, motion design, storyboarding, world-building, and production-ready rendering. Many described the environment as a rare space where imagination accelerated and ideas came alive swiftly. Workflows became smarter; storytelling became sharper.

A key feature of the masterclass was its team-based approach. From Day 1, participants were paired into teams of two, learning and troubleshooting together before producing a final AI animation project. These works were later showcased and recorded as part of the programme’s official compilation, demonstrating the transformative results achievable when collaboration meets technology.

Building Malaysia’s next generation of AI creators

Beyond technical outputs, the masterclass cultivated a thriving creative community. Participants left with new collaborators, strengthened confidence, and a deeper understanding of how AI can elevate — not replace — human imagination.

The broader impact reflects Point College’s commitment to elevating Malaysia’s creative industry. As Professor Yoki Chin emphasised, “Our goal is for participants to continue leveraging AI in their studios, agencies, and independent projects — inspiring a new generation of Malaysian animation and digital content creators.”

Looking ahead, Prof Yoki expressed optimism about Malaysia’s growing AI creative landscape. “I can imagine next year our 100 AI heroes putting Malaysia on the AI world map… There will be more AI animations, movies, videos, music videos, advertisements, and short dramas created by all of us.”

He encouraged participants to pursue grants, awards, and future collaborations, reaffirming the long-term potential of AI-driven content creation.

With all three batches now completed, Point College’s AI-Powered Animation Masterclass has set a new benchmark for technology-enhanced creative education.
