Grab Malaysia brought together its driver-partners and delivery-partners for a special appreciation event, celebrating the everyday heroes who form the backbone of its platform. In collaboration with MONSTA and Astro Shaw, the initiative saw over 100 drivers and delivery partners treated to an exclusive screening of Papa Zola The Movie, currently the No.1 film in Malaysian cinemas.
Held at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), One Utama in Petaling Jaya, the event went beyond a simple movie night. Family members of the partners were also invited, reinforcing the central theme of family, sacrifice and togetherness that lies at the heart of the film itself.

Celebrating everyday sacrifices
The screening served as a symbolic show of appreciation for Grab’s driver and delivery partners, many of whom work long hours daily to support their families. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, the Papa Zola mascot made a special appearance during the photo session, donning a Grab jacket and mingling with guests, while partners attended proudly in their Grab uniforms. Exclusive Papa Zola The Movie souvenirs were also distributed, making the evening memorable for both parents and children.
“At Grab Malaysia, we are happy to celebrate our driver- and delivery-partners who are the heart of our platform,” said Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations & Mobility, Grab Malaysia. “This special screening is a dedicated celebration in recognition of their dedication, hard work and vital role they play in supporting their families every day. Reflecting the message of Papa Zola The Movie, we hope this initiative gives them the opportunity to spend meaningful time with their loved ones and create lasting family memories.”
Papa Zola’s story mirrors gig economy realities
The choice of film was deliberate. Papa Zola The Movie tells the story of a devoted father who works as a food delivery rider to ensure the happiness and security of his wife and child. The narrative resonates strongly with many in the gig economy, portraying challenges that are both familiar and deeply human.

“Papa Zola The Movie is a film rooted in the realities of today’s lives, reflecting parents who shoulder responsibilities together for the sake of their families,” said Nizam Abd Razak, Director and Writer of the film and Chief Executive Officer of MONSTA. “In an increasingly challenging world, including the reality of many earning a living through the gig economy such as food delivery, this story mirrors what we see every day. We see this film as a tribute to the silent fighters out there who persevere with strength and determination for their loved ones.”
Astro Shaw echoed similar sentiments about the collaboration. “At Astro Shaw, we are truly honoured to collaborate with Grab Malaysia to share this meaningful moment with Grab’s driver and delivery-partners and their families,” said Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, Executive Producer of the film and Head of Astro Shaw.
Malaysian animation finds global audience
Beyond its emotional impact, Papa Zola The Movie has also achieved remarkable commercial success, raking in RM43 million within just 18 days at the Malaysian box office, placing it among the country’s highest-grossing animated films. The film is currently screening in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, with international releases beginning in January 2026, starting in Indonesia before expanding to India, Vietnam and key Middle Eastern markets.
“The story of Papa Zola is universal,” said Rivki Morais, Chief Marketing Officer of MD Pictures. “It’s grounded in real-life struggles that every parent and family can relate to, making it highly marketable across cultures.”
As part of the broader campaign, Grab also featured the Papa Zola character within its app and through digital out-of-home advertising, reinforcing support for local animation while celebrating the driver and delivery partner community. With its blend of heart, humour and heroism, Papa Zola The Movie continues to showcase how Malaysian stories can resonate powerfully, both at home and on the global stage.
