Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) is set to host the SunMed Healthy Living Carnival 2026 on Sunday, April 26, from 10am to 4pm at the SMC Tower D Lobby, reinforcing its commitment to advancing preventive healthcare and community wellbeing.
Guided by the theme “Better Health. Better Life”, the annual event aims to create greater awareness on the importance of healthy living while encouraging Malaysians to take proactive steps towards improving their overall health. The carnival aligns with global efforts surrounding World Health Day, highlighting the urgency of addressing lifestyle-related health challenges in the country.

Recent projections paint a worrying picture of Malaysia’s health trajectory. Obesity rates continue to climb, with over 2.85 million children aged between five and 19 expected to be overweight or obese by 2026, alongside more than 32.6% of adults. The rise of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer further underscores the need for early intervention and sustained health education.
Tan Mei Shin, Senior Director of Business Development and Corporate Communications at SMC, emphasised the hospital’s mission in driving community health awareness. “Here at SMC, our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our patients and community is at the heart of everything we do. Through our annual Health Carnival, we aim to empower fellow Malaysians to strengthen their immunity, maintain physical fitness, and embrace an active lifestyle. We hope that, by fostering these healthy habits, we will inspire individuals and communities to prioritise their wellbeing and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives,” she said.
Interactive screenings and activities to engage public
Visitors to the carnival will gain access to a wide array of health screenings and assessments conducted by SMC’s Centres of Excellence. These include Body Composition Analysis, blood glucose and cholesterol testing, postural blood pressure checks, and the Sit-to-Stand Endurance Test, among others. The initiative is designed to provide practical insights into individual health conditions while encouraging early detection of potential risks.
Beyond screenings, the event will feature interactive activities aimed at engaging participants of all ages. Highlights include the Lightning Reflex Challenge, Pickleball Challenge, a Healthy Living Marketplace, as well as hearing and cancer awareness booths. Educational flash quizzes and lucky draw sessions are also expected to draw strong participation from families and community members.

The upcoming carnival builds on SMC’s growing reputation for clinical excellence. The hospital was recently ranked as the top Malaysian hospital in the Newsweek World’s Best Hospitals 2026 list for the second consecutive year. It also secured the Hospital of the Year title for the fifth consecutive year, alongside the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026.
These recognitions underscore SMC’s continued efforts to enhance patient care standards, safety, and measurable health outcomes, while strengthening its position as a leading healthcare institution both locally and globally.
