A special celebration for special needs

MELAKA – Today KDSF celebrated World Down Syndrome Day at the KIWANIS Center in Bukit Peringgit, Melaka.

Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (KDSF),Melaka, is a an organisation which provides special needs education of children with Down Syndrome below the age of 6.

Today KDSF celebrated the World Down Syndrome Day at the KIWANIS Center at Bukit Peringgit Melaka.

Over 200 parents and children attended the event which was sponsored by members of the community.

KDSF Melaka Center chairperson Kenny Chow said that the KDSF special needs programme for children with Down Syndrome started at the center in the year 2000 as an early intervention programme for preschool children with special needs.

Kiwanis Club of Melaka, president, Muhammad Nabil Vethivell said that the Melaka State Government allocated a building for the center at the present site in Bukit Peringgit in the year 2004 and has provided considerable assistance to the center which has been functioning for the last 12 years.

Meanwhile past president  Sharifah Salmah said that the center expects to raise funds through its programme “Mamamia” which will be held on the 15th & 16th June, 2012 at the MITC , Melaka, Malaysia.
