As one drives along the Penang coastal highway, towards Bayan Lepas, one cannot help but notice piles and piles of construction waste dumps.
A visit to the site along the highway, at Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, showed signs of continuous dumping of rubbish.
Construction debris can be seen, rampantly scattered everywhere and bull-dozed into the swarmpy sea.
The surrounding trees are indiscreetly uprooted in the process. This is negatively impacting the eco-system in the area.
This used to be a patch of lush green land, where goats feed on and graze freely. It has now become a stoney barren wasteland, devoid of grass and green vegetation.
This is the work of some irresponsible contractors, who find it convenient to dispose off their construction wastes, here.
The culprits continue to flout the law and get away scot-free.
It’s time the authorities pull their act together and get tough with these unscrupulous contractors before Penang’s shore line is defaced and destroyed by pollution.
