Penang against Peaceful Assembly Bill

Penang against Peaceful Assembly Bill

The Local Democracy Month 2011 was launched by YB Chow Kon Yeow at the Penang Esplanade last sunday (27/11/11).
During this month long period, there will be many workshops, competitions, forums and talks in
an effort to increase public awareness of local government’s functions and roles and that of its state agencies
and municipal government.
During the launch, YB Chow Kon Yeow, YB Jason Ong and former state exco Dato Dr Toh Kin Wooi took the opportunity
to speak against the Peaceful Assembly Bill. Penangnites gathered peacefully and listened attentively as each
speaker took turn to explain the “pitfalls” of this Bill. The crowd shouted with arms raised in unison against the
Bill demanding that the government withdraw this Bill unconditionally.
