The Befrienders Johor Bahru celebrated its 5th Anniversary alongside a Fund Raising Dinner, with a party themed Hawaii 0-5.
They were joined by fellow volunteers from Befrienders Centres in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Ipoh, Seremban, Penang and Kota Kinabalu.
The Befrienders Society provides emotional support through the phone, and also conducts awareness campaigns and public events.
The event was organised in conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day recently, this year’s theme being “Preventing Suicide in Multicultural Societies”.
Guest-of-honour for the event, member of parliament Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad pledged an annual grant of RM3,000 towards Befrienders Johor Bahru.
Among the highlights of the evening were a bellydancing performance, a martial arts performance by the Win Long Taekwondo Club, and an energetic performance by a Michael Jackson impersonator.
