THE SECOND Johor International Dance Championship 2011 was successfully organised at Pekin Sutera Restaurant on 30.4.2011.
This event had drawn 300 International Competitors from 13 countries. The event was endorsed by the World Dance Council Asia Amateur League and the Ballroom Dancers Federation International.
The Competitors ranging in age from 6 to 65 performed dances such as the sensual Salsa and the pulsating Rumba, impressed the 500-odd guests and a panel of 28 adjudicators headed by World Dance Council Examiner, Aleena Tan, 56-year-old .
Tan who runs the Sunny Low Dance Studio in Singapore, was the organiser for the event, working in collaboration with Sammy Soo,46-year-old, who runs the S & A Dance Centre at 189-A, Jalan Sri Pelangi , Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru.
The panel of Adjudicators comprised of distinguished judges in the World of Dance from Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, England, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong & Philippines . The other dances in the competition included the Jive, cha cha, fox trot, quick step and tango.
Jin Ou Liang, 11 and Zhang Yu Xin, 10 from Jiangsu Wu Xi, China took up Latin Dancing six years ago. The pair won the Championship under the “ Latin 4 Dances Close “ category.
Nancy Zhao Shan Shan, 18 from Hong Kong, a professional Dance Teacher who has been dancing for the past six years, is passionate in ballroom dancing and has been competiting in more than ten International Dance Championship Events.
A fund -raising drive was also held during the event to raise money for the Grace Covenant Community Care, a non-government organization that provides lodging for the orphans, abandoned & abused children, single, abused & unwed mothers and the disabled.
A total of RM6,795.00 was raised with dance teacher, Jeffrey Chen contributing RM3,000.00 towards this
worthy cause.
