Nine Emperor Gods return to heaven

Nine Emperor Gods return to heaven

The 9th day of the Chinese 9th lunar month signifies the end of the Vegetarian festival of the “Kew Ong Yah”, the Nine Emperor Gods.  On the night of this day, devotees and curious onlookers converge to temples to pray and send off  the Nine Emperor Gods.

In Penang this event takes place simultaneously at various temples.   Citizen Journalist, Lim Boo Seng followed the trail of the entourage to send off the Nine Emperor Gods starting from the Kuan Yin Temple in Burmah road, Penang and ending at the Tan Clan Jetty.  No sooner as the entourage started off, it started to rain.   The rain stopped as soon as it came, a sign of  good omen as far as the devotees are concerned. It was an exciting and spiritual experience to see mediums in trance, and devotees braving the rain.
