The 65th anniversary of the Sandakan-Ranau death march was attended by the Governor-General of Australia, and also two former prisoners of war.
The honorary march is held on August 15 every year in the memory of more than 2000 British and Australian prisoners of Japanese occupation who passed away during the 260km march from Sandakan to Ranau.
Only six prisoners, all of them Australians, survived the march, which took place in 1945.
