Former ISA detainee K Vasanthakumar was arrested today while attempting to hand over a memorandum on the plight of Indian Malaysians to Prime Minister Najib Razak at a private function.
The activist, along with 10 others, was trying to approach the premier, who was on his way out after passing out 50 scholarships to Indian students, the result of collaboration between the Sri Murugan Centre and the 1Malaysia Development Berhad in Brickfields on June 12, 2010.
In a recent interview with CJ Arvind Raj, he claimed that the arrest was unlawful. Police claimed that the arrest at Sekolah Vivekananda in Brickfields was on a precaution basis, he was released soon after police finished questioning him.
He added that his intention was to deliver a memorandum to the Prime Minister of Malaysia on the poor Indian student denied JPA scholarship and university entrance issue.
