Flashmob for press freedom

Flashmob for press freedom

May 3rd, 2010 is World Press Freedom day.  A group of individuals, activists and officers from  Centre for Independent Journalist have gathered at the KLCC for a flashmob by reading the newspapers upside down.
Wong Chin Huat said it is a freedom of expression where people goes to KLCC on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and read the papers upside-down.
However, another group who called themselves NGOs claimed that Wong’s side is not being fair to mainstream media.  CJ Lilian asked Mohd. Hishamuddin who is the spokesperson if he is linked to any political party as she noted that they were holding Harakah Daily and Suara Keadilan.  He said he is from Kelab Pemuda Prihatin Putrajaya.  However, a Google search proved otherwise.

About 30 people held a brief silent protest gathering this afternoon at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, which falls tomorrow.

Organised by the Writers’ Alliance for Media Independence (Wami), among others, they gathered at the fountain area of KLCC Park to protest political interference in the media and to call for press freedom.

Sitting on the steps at the entrance to the KLCC Suria mall, they sought to put their point across by ‘reading’ mainstream newspapers upside down.

However, another group who called themselves NGOs claimed that Wong’s side is not being fair to mainstream media.  CJ Lilian asked Mohd Hishamuddin who is the spokesperson for the group if he is linked to any political party as she noted that they were holding Harakah Daily and Suara Keadilan.  He said he is from Kelab Pemuda Prihatin Putrajaya.  However, a Google search proved otherwise.
