On Wesak Day, devout Buddhists gathered at temples offering prayers to Lord Buddha and seeking Buddha’s blessings.
Wesak Day commemorates Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death which took place on the same lunar date and is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the fourth lunar month or on the full moon day of May.
On this day, Buddhists worship, offer flowers and light oil lamps, burn candles and incensed joss-sticks and go vegetarian throughout the day.
The temple had prepared 9,000 packets of vegetarian food for devotees who consume no meat on the holy day to symbolise their compassion for all living things.
A floats procession from the temple to the city streets and back was held later in the evening.
