Lim Guan Eng: Johor DAP delivering its first salvo in Johor Jaya

Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary general, Lim Guan Eng, who is also the chief minister of Penang, was in Taman Molek, here, recently, to attend the largest ever Johor DAP fund raising dinner.

Some 3300 party supporters and well wishers attended the dinner function.

Upon Lim’s arrival, he was greeted with thunderous applause and was given a standing ovation by the crowd who have been waiting anxiously to hear him speak.

He was escorted to the stage and waved to the applauding crowd and he started off by greeting the crowd in three languages much to the delight of crowd.

Lim then smilingly said, this is his first experience to stand on a 360 degree stage to speak, and again the crowd reciprocated with loud applause and laughter.

He told the crowd that, Johor DAP is firing its first salvo in Johor Jaya, by telling the BN government, specifically Malaysian Chinese Assocaition (MCA) chief, Chua Soi Lek, that the people in Johor is ready for change.

Johor Jaya state seat is currently represented by the two term state assemblyperson, Tan Cher Puk, from MCA.

Lim went on to highlight on the many successes of what the Penang government under the Pakatan rule have achieved over the last four years.

Pakatan Rakyat (Pakatan) is a coalition between three main opposition parties namely, Peoples Justice Party (Keadilan), headed by de-facto leader , Anwar Ibrahim, Democratic Action Party (DAP)  by Karpal Singh and the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) lead by Abdul Hadi Awang.

In between his speech, he interjected and urged the people in Johor to stand up and be prepared to vote for change if they want a better and cleaner government to rule the state.

He told the crowd that wanting to be a good government is not that difficult where a good government needs only to fulfill three important criteria.

Firstly, he reiterated and said, a good government must listen to its people, secondly, it must be ready to do things for its people and finally, it must be able to offer a new sense of hope for its people.

Next, Lim briefly outlined what the Pakatan will do when it comes to power in the coming general election.

Foremost, he said, all Chinese type national primary and secondary schools will be funded automatically by the government annually without having to ‘beg’ for allocations as what is happening now.

Next, he continue and said, all senior citizens will receive an annual RM1000 financial handout from the government.

Lastly, the government will abolish the north south highway toll collection.

Lim’s entire captivating speech lasted for an hour which many a time were interrupted by the generous applause given by the crowd.

The dinner ended with Lim and the organising committee members taking a bow to express their thank and appreciation to the crowd overwhelming support for the party.
