Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring mothers and celebrating motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. It was first started in the U.S. in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother. She then began a campaign to make “Mother’s Day” a recognized holiday in the US.
In 1912, Anna Jarvis trademarked the phrases “second Sunday in May” and “Mother’s Day”, and created the Mother’s Day International Association
Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated in more than 46 countries around the world though at different times in the month of May and in some countries it is celebrated in entirely different times of the year.
In the present time, Mother’s Day has come to be internationally recognised as the day to honor all mothers and thank them for the services they impart for the benefit of their individual child and consequently to the development of mankind.
Back home, Mother’s Day is celebrated with lunch or dinners for mums at restaurants or hotels. Major shopping complexes will also organise special events to commemorate this special day.
CJMY spoke to some kids and asked them how much they love their mothers.
