The Johor police will soon be making arrests on several suspected big time soccer bookies who are suspected to be involved in match-fixing cases in the state.
This is after the criminal investigation department had obtained new information on the activities of the syndicate, said Johor police chief, Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff, after a Johor police contingent appreciation ceremony here, yesterday.
Mohd Mokhtar said, the police is targeting the syndicate members especially the big time book
He was commenting on the progress of the police investigation on the six Johor FC President Cup players who were suspended for being allegedly involved in match fixing the Johor versus Perlis match in Pasir Gudang stadium on February 16, 2012.
In that match Johor beat Perlis with a 3-0 score line.
Meanwhile during the appreciation ceremony, thirty-one officers and one hundred nineteen members were presented with certificate of appreciation and work excellence certificate for the year 2011.
Fifty units of motorcycles were handed over to the Johor criminal investigation department and five mobile patrolling vans (MPV) were also handed over to the logistic department and to the respective police district headquarter in Ledang, Kulaijaya, Seri Alam and Mersing.
In year 2011, the mobile patrolling van unit (MPV) managed to arrest 994 individuals for suspected criminal offences.
