Sungai Way New Village folk enjoy CNY party

The Sungai Way New Village community (now renamed Kampung Seri Setia) came out in force to join the Chinese New Year celebration at the Medan Selera food court on the second floor of  Pasar Seri Setia in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya on Saturday 18th February 2012.

The Mesra Rakyat Perayaan Tahun Baru Cina 2012 program is organized by the Sungai Way Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and ADUN’s office of Kampung Tunku in collaboration with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and saw attendance of some 1,000 residents who were treated to a sumptuous buffet spread and entertained to a string of songs and dance performances such as lion dance, line dance, karaoke, children and choir performances.

The event helped fostered closer ties among the community and it was good to see the large turnout of people happily intermingling with the VIPs.

Present were Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) MP Tony Pua, Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San and JKKK Sungai Way (Kampung Seri Setia) chairman Ding Eow Chai. Also joining the celebration were Kelana Jaya MP Low Gwo Burne and MBPJ councillor for zone 20 Darren Tiong.

The cheerful hosts later handed out ang pow packets filled with money to children.

There was a lucky draw with the lucky winners taking home big hampers.

Darren Tiong also handed out the donations from his council allocation to various non-governmental organizations (NGO) to fund their activities, such as Sungai Way Youth Club and Pertubuhan Ibu Tunggal Semarak Kasih Selangor for single mothers.

The crowd enjoyed a buffet spread.

The all-girl Apple Green line dance troupe keeps the crowd fired up with their lively songs and line dancing.

 

These ladies captivate and mesmerize the audience with fan dancing.

 

An Indian dance style performance enthralls the crowd.

 

The Sungai Way Youth Club enliven the evening with their choir performance.

 

Lau Weng San distributes ang pow to the children.

 

Malaysians of different races also joined in the festive celebration.
