Members of the Johor police force have been urged by its chief, Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff, to start changing their mindset and work attitude to meet the needs and expectations of the people and government.
Each and every member of the Johor police force needs to improve their attitude while carrying out their respective responsibilities and duties, he said.
Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff was speaking in a monthly Johor police officers gathering in IPK Johor here in Johor Bahru, recently.
He urged members of the Johor police force to develop closer ties and inculcate the esprit de corp among themselves to face future challenges which will be more demanding.
With several Acts repealed, namely, the Internal Security Act (ISA), Restricted Residence Act, Banishment Act and the replacement of Section 27 of the Police Act together with the recently passed Peaceful Assembly Act 2011, will now demanded the police force to act more professionally in carrying out its responsibilities and duties, he said.
Adding, he said, “the world is talking about the rights of individuals as guaranteed under the federal constitution.
“Therefore, with all these new developments, the public expects the police force to act more professionally and ethically in carrying out their responsibilities but at the same time do not compromise on matters concerning public security.”
The police chief lamented that even though the police has managed to reduce the crime rate in the state but it has failed to correct the public’s negative perception of the situation.
