Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim claims that there is an attempt by certain quarters to sabotage the state government over rubbish collection in housing areas.
He said he believes it is a well-coordinated effort by certain parties and added that the state government has sufficient evidence of such acts.
“A scenario, for instance, when the local authorities come and clear the afflicted area of rubbish; within a few hours these parties would have unloaded rubbish enough to fill a lorry.
“The state government has found out that this irresponsible act is taking place in housing areas under the jurisdiction of four main local authorities in Selangor, comprising the Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya city councils and the Klang and Subang Jaya municipal councils,” he told a news conference after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting.
Abdul Khalid said the state government, through the local authorities, had embarked on an initiative to launch a toll-free telephone hotline to address such problems from recurring in the state.
He said the state government will propose to the local councils to reward whistleblowers who provide sufficient information on such acts through the hotline.
The public can also make use of the hotline to complain to the local councils if they find them inefficient in handling rubbish collection and solid waste management services in their areas.
“The complaints will be immediately directed to the local councils for further action and it must be acted upon within 48 hours from the time it is received,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid, who is Selangor Foundation (YS) chairman, said he will conduct a meeting with the foundation’s board of directors soon to find out why YS was not given an extension of the contract to conduct National Service training at its Ampang Pecah camp.
He said the contract should have been renewed by the National Service Training Department as YS has spent RM4.04 million to renovate the camp.
“The contract has to be renewed as we need to think about other users to salvage our investment,” he said.
