PBS to probe into protest against RCI in Sabah

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) will probe into the motive behind the protest staged by certain quarters against the setting up of a RCI on illegal immigrants and forged citizenship documents in Sabah.

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) will probe into the motive behind the protest staged by certain quarters against the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants and forged citizenship documents in Sabah.

Sabah State Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun, who is also PBS Information chief, said he was disappointed with those quarters who dared to staged the protest especially after the setting up of the RCI had been approved by the Parliament.

“I think the protest was baseless. Most of the people (in Sabah) agreed with the setting up of the RCI. “We are just concerned about the interests and the rights of the original residents of Sabah,” he told reporters after hosting a Christmas open house yesterday.

He was commenting on the recent protest made by Sandakan-based Rantau Putra Association, which believed that the setting up of the RCI was unconstitutional and unfair.

The association claimed that the illegal immigrants in Sabah comprised mostly refugees who possessed a IMM13 document, while only a small number of them possessed a MyKad.

On Dec 13, Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is also PBS President, said that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reforms had agreed on the implementation of the 10 proposals, one of which was the setting up of the RCI.

Science, technology and Innovation Minister Dr Maximus Ongkili, who is also PBS deputy president, chairs the committee.
