The Dewan Negara approved three more bills late last night after approving six bills earlier in the day.
The three bills are the Postal Services Bill 2011, Veterans Bill 2011 and the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) (Amendment) Bill 2011.
Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Joseph Salang, who tabled the Postal Service Bill 2011 earlier, said in his winding up speech that the new legislation provides for a better monitoring and supervision of the postal industry.
He also said that Pos Malaysia had no plans to lower its courier charges despite facing competition from other courier service operators.
“We hope that the competition will spur Pos Malaysia to keep on improving its courier service,” he said, adding that there are many countries looking to emulate Malaysia’s model in postal service management.
The new piece of legislation, which replaces the Postal Services Act 1991, places Pos Malaysia under the supervision of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
