Police have detected the mobile phone signal of missing Korean Kim Chong Yong in the vicinity of Jalan Gombak-Bentong.
This is the latest lead since businessman Kim,53, who has lived in Malaysia for two decades, was reported missing on Oct 31, a Bukit Aman source told Bernama yesterday.
He said police launched a search operation yesterday morning after a mobile phone signal was detected in a forest area between Batu 14 and Batu 25, Jalan Gombak-Bentong.
The operation involving Bukit Aman CID, Kuala Lumpur police, 69th Commando Unit (GOF) and representatives of the South Korean Embassy in Malaysia was stopped at 6pm as it was dark and raining.
“The search will be continued to meet the request of Kim’s family and the South Korean Embassy here,” he said.
Police believed that two suspects were involved in the case and that the first suspect was killed by the second suspect who was of the same nationality.
“Intelligence also found that the second suspect came into the jungle in November, one week after Kim was reported missing,” he said.
Criminal elements are believed to be involved after a tyre of Kim’s Mercedes Benz was found at Kondominium One Ampang Avenue, Ampang on Nov 1.
He said the case is investigated under the Missing Persons Act and police are hunting the two suspects.
Kim who is deputy president of South Korea Sports Community in Malaysia was found missing by his manager on Oct 31 who later informed his family in Korea.
He was last seen at an entertainment centre at Desa Sri Hartamas with a man between 9pm and 1am on Oct 30 before reported missing the next day.
Kim’s daughter from Korea came to Malaysia to make a report at Jalan Travers police station four days after her father could not be traced.
