A security guard cooly waited for the right moment to shoot and kill a bank robber as the thief was getting away from a bank in Pandan Indah, Ampang, yesterday.
In the 3.18pm incident, the security guard was said to be hiding in a secluded spot and observing the movement of the suspect in his early 30s.
Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin said earlier the suspect, attired in black with a closed full-face helmet, had entered the bank before ordering 20 customers to lie on the floor and jumping over the counter.
“The robber then ordered 12 bank employees at the counter section to fill RM253,000 into his backpack,” he told reporters at the scene.
He said the suspect took just 10 minutes to carry out the heist and as he was getting away, the security guard armed with a pump gun shot him when he was about 50 metres away, killing the robber instantly.
Amiruddin said police found a ‘Steyr’ gun on the suspect.
“The suspect’s body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem and police are still investigating the identity of the suspect.
“Police will also check the CCTV recording at the bank to investigate the movements of the suspect and whether he had other accomplices,” he said adding this was the first robbery incident at the bank.
Meanwhile, a witness known only as Phan, 50, said at about 3.15pm he saw a man on a motorcycle behaving suspiciously in front of the bank and the man ran when he heard a gun shot.
“The man with a closed full-face helmet was loitering in front of the bank and fled when a shot rang in the bank,” he said.
