More than 27,500 runners from all over the world gathered in Penang for the “LARGEST BRIDGE RUN EVENT IN MALAYSIA,” making it into the Malaysian Book of Records. The last record was also held by Penang Bridge International Marathon with 21,399 numbers of participants in 2007.
Over 1,500 are from other countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan and United Kingdom. On the whole people from a total of 67 countries participated in the event.
The Allianz Penang Bridge Marathon (APBIM) provided free shuttle buses for participants coming from mainland on the day of the event.
On the day of the event, the Penang Bridge and Jelutong Expressway was closed from 12am-10am. The Ferry Services however, was operating throughout the night.
Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng gave participants a pep-talk and thank them heartily for their support and hopes that there will be more runners participating in the 2012 run.
