UniMAP impresses judges at ‘1 World Culture’ competition

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) sang and danced its way into the hearts of the judges when it emerged champion in the men’s solo singing and dancing categories at the 1 World Culture competition last week.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) sang and danced its way into the hearts of the judges when it emerged champion in the men’s solo singing and dancing categories at the 1 World Culture competition last week.

The event, which saw the participation of its international students, was held at the Nilai College University.

A UniMAP student from Yemen, Shehabaddin Galal Hael, who sang ‘Mimpi Laila’, won in the solo category, grabbing a RM1,500 cash prize.

He also won the best vocal prize, taking home RM1,000, trophy and a certificate of participation. According to a UniMAP statement yesterday, the university’s dance team which performed the Endang and Yashaain dance also emerged champion, taking RM3,000, trophy and a certificate of participation.

A total of 36 singing participants and 10 dancing teams from 10 universities took part in the competition. National Department of Arts and Culture (JKKN) director-general Datuk Norliza Rofli gave away the prizes.

The 1 World Culture is an annual competition organised by the Nilai College University, in collaboration with the higher education ministry and the JKKN.
